2017 NWHL All Star Schedule Announced

The National Women’s Hockey League announced the schedule for the All-Star Festivities at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, this weekend in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania suburb of Cranberry Township.

On Saturday, February 11, the All-Star Skills Showdown will take place, with five different events. Fastest skater competition, which includes a fastest goalie as well, hardest shot, shooting accuracy, breakaway challenge and a rapid-fire event. Following the skills competition, the players will be available for an autograph session with the fans.

On Sunday for the All-Star Game, the two teams, Team Kessel and Team Steadman, will battle through two 25 minute periods, of four-on-four hockey. An 18-minute intermission will separate the two periods. After the final horn, the players will once again be available to sign autographs with the fans.

The league will also run a girls’ hockey clinic on Saturday morning in addition to the skills competition and game. The All-Star Girls’ Hockey Clinic, presented by Dunkin Donuts, will consist of 50 U12 girls from Pittsburgh area hockey programs.

Pittsburgh Penguins President and Chief Executive Officer, David Morehouse said, “We are excited to have the National Women’s Hockey League bring its showcase event to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. Women’s hockey is growing rapidly both in Pittsburgh and across the world, and this will give our fans the chance to see some of the most talented players in North America and to create new role models for aspiring players in the Pittsburgh area.”

Team Kessel will be coached by New York Riveters coach and general manager, Chad Wiseman, while Team Steadman will be led by Riveters assistant coach, Sis Paulsen.

Riveters forward, Amanda Kessel, the younger sister of Pittsburgh Penguins forward, Phil Kessel, will serve as the captain of Team Kessel. Buffalo Beauts forward, Kelley Steadman, the captain of Team Steadman is the Director of Hockey Operations for Robert Morris University, in nearby Moon, PA.
