Baseball A true Homecoming: Mets to bring back Familia on a three-year deal Familia posted 17 saves before being traded to the A’s last season. The Mets have reportedly signed him back on a three-year deal. by Daniel Yanofsky December 13, 2018 Sometimes it only takes one move to put things into motion. Late last night (or not as late, if you are on Vegas time), it was reported that Brodie Van Wagenen will be bringing Jeurys Familiia back into the fold. While the team hasn’t confirmed, the signing would be a three-year, $30 million deal. Jeff Passan was the first to report the deal. BREAKING: It's a Jeurys Familia reunion in Flushing. Source confirms the Mets have signed the free-agent reliever, who spent the first six and a half years of his career with the team. Familia gives them a setup man in front of newly acquired closer Edwin Diaz. — Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) December 13, 2018 Familia, 29, was signed by the Mets as an amateur free agent in 2007. He made his debut for the club in 2012, becoming a reliable reliever. Last season, Familia was traded to the Oakland Athletics. In a combined 2018 season, Familia had a 3.13 ERA, 83 strikeouts and 18 saves, 17 of those with the Mets. He has recorded 123 saves with the team, third-most in their history. While there has been plenty of good with Familia, there also is the bad. Familia was suspended 15 games in 2017 for violating MLB’s joint violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy. He also blew three saves in the 2015 World Series, even if some of those blown saves weren’t of his own accord. He underwent surgery in 2017 for an arterial clot in his right shoulder. Overall, however, Mets fans were known to see a fireball reliever who loved his time in New York before being initially traded. "I don’t want to leave here. Mets fans can be relieved to hear that, especially with how the back end of the bullpen can look with Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman in the fold. The team may also be interested in picking up Andrew Miller to balance everything out. Being the first big reliever to make a move, Familia has set the mark for the remainder of the offseason.
