Boxing A Wall Street Knockout: Deontay Wilder Visits The NYSE Holder of the green belt, Wilder went to the building where green is beloved. by Daniel Yanofsky May 16, 2019 New York City is home to some of the most powerful places in the world. Nothing is more powerful than Wall Street. It is only fitting that one of the most dominant champions in boxing today collaborated with a Wall Street staple. WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder visited the New York Stock Exchange earlier this week before his fight against Dominic Breazeale. Wilder (40-0-1) rang the closing bell with Stephen Espinoza. “The Bronze Bomber” showed off his well-known strength, even breaking the gavel after a few bangs. https://twitter.com/NYSE/status/1128751798993412096 “This was a great experience ringing The Closing Bell and bringing the gavel down to close The New York Stock Exchange,” Wilder stated in a press release. “It’s not every day you get to do that. It’s not every day that someone breaks the gavel at The Closing Bell. But I’m the heavyweight champion of the world and when I hit something it breaks. So that gavel was just like my opponents. Once I hit them right, they break and they’re never the same.” A tradition like no other, promoting fights taking place in New York always has a few benefits. The holder of the green belt traveled to the place where green is valued. If Wilder wins, maybe he can buy the NYSE a new gavel. Wilder v. Breazeale takes place on Saturday, May 18 inside the Barclays Center. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com and the Barclays Center box office.
