Soccer Aaron Long — MLS Defender of the Year by Roberto C. Severini November 10, 2018 With an impressive year for the Red Bull’s organization, individual Aaron Long, has been righteously awarded MLS Defender of the Year. After a stellar performance for the Red Bull back line, Long became the first New York based, MLS defender to win this award. To highlight the performance of the centre back, Long played in all 34 regular season games for the Red Bull’s, allowing less than one goal per game (the best in the MLS). Collectively, the defensive line allowed 33 goals in 34 games with Long in the starting XI. In addition to his defensive performance, the 26-year-old had 3 goals and 2 assists in the regular season, a career high for the centre back. To the team’s misfortune, the Red Bull’s Achilles heel continues to be Columbus Crew SC. After losing 1-0 in the first leg away from home, the Red Bull’s return to Red Bull Arena this Sunday, November 11 at 7:30 p.m., to avenge their loss and break free of Columbus’ grip.
