Columns Fit with Brit: About Me and How I Got Into Fitness Fit with Brit is a weekly health and fitness column, hosted by Double G Sports and written by Brittany LaPlant. by Brittany LaPlant December 3, 2019 Hi, and welcome to my health and fitness column, Fit with Brit! My name is Brittany LaPlant and and I’m in my senior year at Rutgers University. I’m also a Rutgers women’s soccer alum and finished up my college career this past fall. Working out and training is something that I’ve always enjoyed, but just over a year ago I discovered a newfound passion for the health and fitness lifestyle. In November of 2018, I had surgery for bilateral compartment syndrome in my shins, which I developed from soccer. During my rehab, and recovery, I started going to the gym and focusing on my diet in the hopes of coming back for my spring soccer season in the best shape possible. Somewhere along the line I fell in love with the fitness lifestyle itself. I realized the power and control that I had over my own body. I began to take this lifestyle more seriously and started tracking my macros and calories. For those of you who are unfamiliar with macros, they’re the macronutrients in your food and are made up of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Making this change in my life has already transformed me into a better version of myself. It has taught me self-discipline, time management, focus, and above all, to always trust the process. Now that my soccer career is over, I have so much more time to devote to my fitness journey. I’m extremely excited to have the opportunity to share that part of my life through this column. I genuinely hope that I’m able to help others set fitness goals and work towards achieving them. I also hope that I can educate and provide advice on different aspects of health and fitness. I’ve learned a lot through others and through my own personal experiences and I would love to share that. Please feel free to share with me anything you would like me to address in the future in the comments section or by contacting me through my social media!
