The New Jersey Jackals did not take kindly to being swept last weekend by the Sussex Miners. They came out in full force for their midweek series with the Aigles de Trois-Rivieres this week. Taking advantage of the three game matchup with the last place Aigles the Jackals swept the series and reclaimed their position atop the league standings.

With an off day before the series, the Jackals looked well rested in the first game with the Aigles this past Tuesday. Posting a whopping six runs in the bottom of the second inning the Jackals never paused to look back. The Jackals went on to post eleven total runs in the game and take the opener in a final score of 11-2. Surprisingly the Jackals only combined for seven hits, all of which earned an RBI.

Wednesday’s game was an entirely different story. Each team used a mere three pitchers in the game as both offenses were kept at bay. Jackals’ starter Matt Loosen threw a solid seven innings of work, allowing only six hits, one walk, and one run, while also striking out six batters.

The final score in this one would be 2-1 in favor of the Jackals. The Aigles lone run coming on Aigles’ designated hitter Kyle Lafrenz’s solo homerun in the top of the fifth inning.

Thursday’s finale had the Jackals looking to complete the sweep and jump back to sole possession of first place. The Aigles posted two early runs in the top half of the first inning and the Jackals replied with one in the home half. After that, the jackals struck consistently over the course of the game. Scoring in five of their eight offensive innings, with three in the third and four in the sixth the Jackals finished this series in convincing fashion. The Aigles posted three in the top of the ninth to cut into the lead but the margin was too big and the Jackals completed the sweep with a 10-5 win.

The Jackals are back in their natural environment sitting atop the CanAm standings, as they welcome back the Miners to Yogi Berra Stadium. The Jackals will look to avenge the sweep they suffered recently at the hands of the Miners.
