Charity Events The Annual TopSpin New York Charity Event is Yet Again a Smash Hit by Joshua Sampson December 7, 2017 Ping pong, an open bar and some of the best food from the New York City area. This is the scene of the annual TopSpin New York Charity Event this past Wednesday evening at the Metropolitan Pavilion. With celebrity guests, famous athletes and many VIPs in attendance, the TopSpin New York Charity event was yet again, a smash hit. TopSpin’s goal is to address a critical issue that faces today’s youth in the realm of education. According to their website, the challenge the TopSpin Charity aims to combat is as follows: “Students from low-income communities are too often not being provided with the necessary resources to succeed. Essential programming is being cut, per pupil expenditures are down and the need for investment in education has never been greater.” TopSpin’s mission is to put on fundraising events across the United States to raise money for local nonprofits that are attempting to solve child education issues. Local New York City nonprofits include “America Needs You,” “A Better Chance” and “Harlem Lacrosse.” Through ping pong tournaments, donations and silent auctions, TopSpin Charity’s work successfully raise awareness through a simple game that similarily forces its players to always be aware and focused. “To me, this is the perfect fusion of table tennis, nightlife and positive and nice people,” TopSpin New York host Ryan Willard said. “If you put all of those things together, we have an opportunity to help so many different lives by showing up, having a good time and having people donate.” In their eight years, over three million dollars has been raised by TopSpin for their nonprofit partners. Tonight, that total grew even higher. “I would like to raise another $100,000,” Willard said. That goal by Willard was well within reach, as the silent auction drew many bidders on items ranging from a James Rodriguez signed FC Bayern Munich jersey to illustrious prize packages. Throughout the night, guests hit the tables and grabbed some food some of New York City’s finest restaurants. People exchanged laughs and forehands in the vibrant atmosphere as they raised and donated money to a worthy cause thus making the night, a smash hit.
