MMA Another heavyweight clash set as Cheick Kongo will face Timothy Johnson at Bellator 208 on Long Island by Daniel Yanofsky August 17, 2018 You can call Bellator’s featured event on Long Island, “The Clash of the Heavyweights!” Cheick Kongo will put his six-fight win streak on the line against Bellator newcomer Timothy Johnson at Bellator 208. Johnson (12-4) recently got signed by Bellator after his contract with the UFC ended. He was 4-3 in the UFC, his last fight a unanimous decision victory over Marcelo Golm at UFC Fight Night 125. The 33 year old will most likely be the underdog in this bout, as his opponent may be the most dominant heavyweight in MMA history. Cheick Kongo (28-10-2) will be looking for his eleventh heavyweight win in Bellator, extending his own record for most wins. At 43 years old, Kongo has won 13 fights via KO. His last fight against Javy Ayala at Bellator 199 was ended that way. He will be making his 31st appearance inside a U.S. promotional octagon (Bellator/UFC), which will ties Tito Ortiz for the most fights in both companies history (credit: MMA Junkie). Left out of the Heavyweight Grand Prix, a win could automatically make Kongo a contender. Another idea? If he wins, he could face the returning Vitaly Minakov, who beat him for the Bellator Heavyweight Title back in 2014. A rematch wouldn’t be the worst thing, especially with the wide range of talent Bellator has. Bellator 208 takes place at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, NY on October 13. The main event will feature Chael Sonnen v. Fedor Emelianenko in the semifinals of the Bellator Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or the Nassau Coliseum box office. Post Views: 1,656 The following two tabs change content below.BioLatest Posts Daniel Yanofsky Baseball Editor, Misc.
