Atlanta Falcons interview two candidates for vacant GM position; one former Texans EVP

Atlanta Falcons begin their process for a new general manager. The Falcons interviewed Anthony Robinson and Rick Smith on Friday.

Robinson, second season with the Falcons’ director of college scouting and has worked for 13 season in the teams’ personnel department. He began his career in Atlanta as a scouting assistant for three seasons.

Smith, former executive VP of football operation for the Houston Texans and also served as GM from 2006-17. Smith was a coach and director of player personnel for the Broncos eventually becoming GM of the Texans.

The process began following the release of coach Dan Quinn and GM Thomas Dimitroff following loss to the Carolina Panthers on Oct.11 The Falcons fell to 0-5.

The interviews were conducted virtually per the NFL COVID-19 protocols. Candidates can host in-person interviews if the team is eliminated form playoffs but until then interviews remain virtual.
