Baltusrol Bits: Monday, July 25th (Day 2 – P.M. Edition)

I will be providing a daily notebook of bits, nuggets, thoughts, and information throughout PGA Championship Week here at Baltusrol Golf Club in my hometown of Springfield, New Jersey:

Weather update: For 6 p.m. this evening, 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms likely, around 87 degrees, winds out of NW 10-20 mph (forecast prepared by meteorologist Brad Nelson for the PGA Championship)

Drink the water: Earlier today, the PGA of America announced drinking water details for spectators of the PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield. Due to hot and humid conditions expected for the next couple of days, PGA of America wanted to remind all those attending where drinking water, misting fans and shaded areas will be available.

All spectators are reminded that they are allowed to bring in one unlabeled bottle of water, up to 24 fl. oz., that can be refilled at public water fountains on-site. In addition, there are over 50 locations that sell beverages throughout the course. Spectators are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration as well as to wear a hat and use sunscreen for protection from the sun.

  • #4 Tee (to the right)
  • #5 Tee (to the right)
  • #12 Tee (to the left)
  • #15 Tee (to the left)
  • #17 Tee (to the left)
  • #18 Tee (to the left)

There are eight concession stands, 10 drink stands, and six grandstands with built-in drink stands, all of which are accessible to the public.  Concessions are located at:

  • #13 Fairway
  • #17 Fairway Walkthrough
  • #17 Fairway, 1
  • #17 Fairway, 2
  • #18
  • Driving Range

15 misting fans are placed across the course and are located:

  • Hole #17 (to the left) – 10 misting fans
  • Practice Range (to the right) – 4 misting fans
  • First-Aid Station – 1 misting fan

Shaded areas are all throughout the course.

Did you know?: 72 international players are representing 24 countries among this year’s field … The last wire-to-wire winner of the PGA Championship was Phil Mickelson, right here at Baltusrol in 2005 … Baltusrol (2005, 16) and Seaview Country Club (1942) in Atlantic City have hosted the three PGA Championships, here in the Garden State … This week, Baltusrol becomes the 17th course to host multiple PGA Championships … Golf Channel Live will be broadcasting from just outside the putting green at 7 p.m. tonight. … The PGA TOUR announced today that longtime executive Bill Calfee, who has served as President of the Web.com Tour since 2006, has decided to retire at the end of the year and that Dan Glod, Senior Vice President and Chief of Operations of the Web.com Tour, is being promoted to President, effective January 1, 2017.
