Baseball Barnstormers Take Series Opener 6-4 by Somerset Patriots June 11, 2016 Lancaster, PA – Despite the fact the Somerset Patriots (26-22) overcame three different deficits, they couldn’t top the Lancaster Barnstormers (25-21) as the home standing squad won 6-4 Saturday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Lancaster used three home runs to edge Somerset. None was bigger than Mike McDade’s two-run blast (4) on an 0-2 count with two outs in the eighth inning that broke the 4-4 tie. “I thought our at bats were outstanding tonight,” remarked Somerset Patriots Manager Brett Jodie. “We battled and competed. We answered the call. Shaun [Garceau] threw the ball great. Made just one mistake as we all know [Lance] Zawadzki swings 3-0 so can’t groove one. [Jeremy] McBryde missed on an 0-2 pitch. We just have to work on some situational pitching.” McDade extended his hitting streak to 16 games with an RBI single in the second inning. Somerset evened the score at 1-1 in the fourth inning when Carlos Guzman sliced an RBI double. Lance Zawadzki socked a home run (2) to give the Barnstormers a 2-1 advantage in the fifth inning. Guzman drilled an RBI single to plate the tying run in the ensuing half inning. The Patriots grabbed their first and only lead when Aharon Eggleston ripped a go ahead RBI double in the top of the seventh inning. He has now hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games. The lead would be brief as Zawadzki, on a 3-0 count, crushed a go ahead two-run home run (3) in the bottom half of the frame. Matt Fields, who had struck out in each of his first three at bats, delivered a game tying home run (5) to make the score 4-4 in the eighth inning. The Barnstormers improved to 19-2 when leading after eight innings. Kevin Munson (1-0) earned the win. Jeremy McBryde (3-1) suffered the loss. Cory Burns notched his 11th save in 13 opportunities. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark Tuesday, June 14th for a 7:05 p.m. game against the York Revolution.
