Barnstormers Top Patriots 4-3

july31FINALLancaster, PA – The Lancaster Barnstormers (14-7, 42-49) defeated the Somerset Patriots (14-8, 64-28) 4-3 Friday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

 

In the bottom of the second inning third baseman Anderson Feliz slapped a RBI double to give Lancaster a 1-0 advantage.

 

The Barnstormers added a run in the bottom of the third inning as left fielder Kent Mattes hit a RBI fielder’s choice making the score 2-0.

 

The Patriots cut the deficit in half in the ensuing half inning as right fielder Michael Burgess blasted a home run (7) making the score 2-1.

 

Third baseman Luke Hughes hammered a home run (5) to expand Lancaster’s lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.

 

Left fielder Aharon Eggleston blooped a RBI single in the top of the fifth inning to dwindle the deficit to 3-2.

 

Mattes mashed a home run (2) to increase the Lancaster lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

 

Third baseman David Vidal banged into a double play that led to a Somerset run in the top of the eighth inning cutting the deficit to 4-3.

 

Bryan Morgado earned the win (2-5) lasting five innings while allowing two runs. Matt Zielinski suffered the loss (6-2) hurling seven innings while allowing four runs. Marcus Walden notched the save (3) pitching the final inning.
