The Steelers can’t afford to pay Roethlisberger’s $41 Million salary-cap. This is a lot of money and the loss of revenue from Covid-19 makes this payment not feasible for the Steelers at all. Roethlisberger is fine with the pay cut and wants to play for the Steelers regardless of how much he makes. Ed Bouchette who is a senior writer for The Athletic Pittsburgh interviewed Roethlisberger about this. Ed Bouchette tweeted out what Roethlisberger had to say. Ben Roethlisberger just told me: “I don’t care bout my pay at all this year!” And is willing to restructure a contract that has a $41 million cap hit for 2021 that includes $19 million in bonus and salary that can be restructured. — Ed Bouchette (@EdBouchette) January 28, 2021 Tweet from @EdBouchette Ben Roethlisberger will be Playing in 2021-2022 NFL Season Roethlisberger has been playing for the Steelers since he was drafted by them in 2004. Currently, he is 38 years old and has an impressive career winning two Super Bowls for the Steelers. Many people speculated that he would retire because of the pay cuts. Roethlisberger said in an interview with NFLonCBS “I have no plans on going anywhere and I feel like even if they decided to trade me I would probably just call it quits.” Ben Roethlisberger wants to continue playing for the Steelers and is willing to get paid less. Covid-19 has lowered the revenue of many sports teams across the country. There is no telling the details of Roethlisberger’s contract with the Steeler as of now. All we can do right now is wait and see what changes Roethlisberger and the Steeler will make to their contract.
