College Big contributions in Queens coming from Freshmen by Sam Mushman November 29, 2017 After graduating seven players last season, the Queens College men’s basketball program knew things would be different this year. With seven new faces on the roster, and six of them being freshmen, Coach Collier of the Knights made it a point to challenge his young players with big minutes early on. The Knights have been competitive in every game they played thus far. In the process of loosing a string of home games by a few points, there has already been much to look forward too. Freshmen Tyrese Crosdale and Elijah Bovell have already received weekly ECC conference honors with their terrific play. Corsdale has been averaging 13 points per game for the Knights. Bovell is coming off a 31-point explosion against the Holy Family Tigers, with six three-pointers in that contest. These are not the only freshmen making a huge impact for Queens. Dwayne Henry has had multiple games scoring in double figures, and has been a lock down defender during crucial moments in games. Henry has shown to be a future floor general for the Knights, especially when they graduate senior guards Simon Green and Tyrone Hall at the end of this year. As far as the interior goes, its been a similar story for Queens. With a big man rotation of sophomore forwards Kevin Buron, Isaac Grant, and freshmen Jelani Williams, there has been limited experience for the Knights front court. Williams is another freshmen to already score in double figures, and Grant is averaging just shy of 10 points per contest. Every game is going to be a challenge for the Knights this year. Simply put, half of their team was playing high school basketball a year ago, and with the learning curve will come mistakes. The good news for Queens is they have a strong foundation that is learning together. With arguably the youngest team in the ECC this year, it wont be long until the Knights become a veteran group, ready to make a serious run.
