Basketball Bill Laimbeer Gets 200th Career WNBA Head Coaching Win by Staff Post July 9, 2016 New York Liberty head coach Bill Laimbeer (Photo by Jeff Auger – Double G Media) The New York Liberty gained more than another regular season victory in Chicago this past Friday night. They achieved a milestone for their head coach Bill Laimbeer. The 88-85 win over the Sky placed Laimbeer in rare company as only the seventh WNBA coach to reach 200 wins, 63 of them with the Liberty. But in the last two years the “championship atmosphere” he often speaks of has finally taken root with the current squad as he has posted a 37-18 record in that span. Bill would very much like to add a WNBA championship to the three he won in Detroit and the Coach of the Year honors he gained last season. But it’s a measure of the growth of the New York Liberty since last year’s record 23 victories and number one seed and appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals, the first time they swam those waters since 2010. The youth intermixed with key veterans has made them consistent winners. This is an amazing accomplishment considering he was nearly gone two seasons ago. Now with the talent in place that can execute his will on the WNBA, Laimbeer looks to build on his legacy record of 200-151 today and in the years to come.
