BlueClaws Take Another Pitchers Battle 2-0

The Lakewood BlueClaws (17-15) pitchers put together another gem in front of a crowd of 1,779 at FirstEnergy Park on Wednesday night, bewildering RiverDog batters, leading to a 2-0 win.

Will Stewart improved his record to 4-0 and lowered his ERA to a paltry 1.46 after tossing eight scoreless innings while striking out 6.  Addison Russ continued his late game dominance as he shut down the RiverDog bats in the ninth, picking up his fourth save of the season and lowering his ERA to a mere 1.08.

The BlueClaws offence was provided by first baseman Quincy Nieporte (2) who went deep with two out and nobody on to provide Lakewood with a 1-0 lead in the second.  The game stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth when DH Colby Fitch came around to score of a sacrifice fly off the bat of centerfielder Kevin Markham, increasing the Claws lead to 2-0.

That was all the scoring the BlueClaws needed in a masterfully pitched game.  Dalton Lehnen (2-2) took the loss for Columbia (16-16) and RiverDogs reliever Chad Martin contributed, tossing two scoreless innings.

Both teams managed just six-hits and neither team generated a hit with runners in scoring position with Lakewood going 0-5 and Columbia 0-2.  The BlueClaws left 6 runners on base during a closely contested battle and the RiverDogs stranded four.

The team’s faceoff again tonight at 6:35pm and fans will be treated to Thirsty Thursday’s $1 beers and sodas.
