Can Noah Dobson actually make Isles roster?

The news just came out that the New York Islanders trimmed their roster down to 40. Below is the full list of cuts that were sent down to Bridgeport;

It’s a little bit of a surprise that Otto Koivula and Mason Jobst were on that list, considering Koivula had a strong few games and Jobst had both a game winning goal and exquisite game winning assist in separate games.

Two names that are still up with the big squad are Noah Dobson and Oliver Wahlstrom. Wahlstrom has played well in his games with the Islanders, although doing so in somewhat limited ice time.

Dobson on the other hand is getting an extra hard look from Barry Trotz and his staff. Dobson has been paired with pretty much everyone under the sun, has ran the second PP unit and has gotten extended time in each game he’s played.

Dobson isn’t a shoo-in to make the team, but based on his circumstances he has a real chance to make this team. Pair that with his incredible ability for a 19 year old and you have a recipe for success.

The Islanders still have another big round of cuts to go before the season starts. Josh Ho-Sang is still up, as is Tanner Fritz. There will be plenty of interesting storylines that play out over the next few days, especially with the young stud Dobson.
