Caris LeVert Won’t Need Surgery Following Scary Foot Injury

The Brooklyn Nets up-and-coming star Caris LeVert was carried off the court on a stretcher in the Nets matchup against the Minneosta Timberwolves on Monday night. LeVert attempted to block a shot from behind as the first half was coming to an end, landing awkwardly, immediately looking at his ankle and putting his hands over his face.

It was a scary scene, as trainers and staff rushed to tend to LeVert. Players on both teams looked on, frightened and devastated. Some Nets players, including Rondae Hollis-Jefferson shed tears.

The Target Center in Minnesota went silent. LeVert had ten points, five assists and four rebounds at the time when the injury occurred. The third-year guard had been enjoying a breakout season, averaging nearly 20 points per game.

Fans and players around the NBA sent LeVert well wishes via social media. Nets fans, as well as fans and players across the NBA, can take a deep breath and sigh of relief because of a new update on LeVert’s injury announced Tuesday morning.

The Nets announced LeVert was diagnosed with a subtalar dislocation of his right foot, after suffering what looked to be a Gordon Hayward-esque injury.

The Nets received the best news they could when it was revealed that the Michigan product would not need to undergo surgery. LeVert is even expected to return to the hardwood before the end of the season.

It is very encouraging that LeVert won’t need to go under the knife and could potentially return this season. Watching the injury in real time was not an easy pill to swallow, it looked like it could have been potentially career- ending. What was especially concerning is LeVert’s health history, as he had three surgeries on his left foot throughout his college campaign.

In 14 contests this season, LeVert looked like a number one option, scoring the ball at will and getting to his spots with ease. It looked like the Nets project was finally taking shape and paying off. The former 20th overall pick is averaging a career high 18.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.2 steals. He is also the only player to score multiple game-winning baskets this season.

With LeVert’s prior injury history, as well as the obstacles and adversity he has previously overcome, Nets fans and Coach Kenny Atkinson can expect LeVert to return stronger than ever.
