New York Knicks team Orthopedist Dr. Answorth Allen performed a left knee patella tendon debridement and repair. The timetable for Anthony to return is 4-6 months. A lot of NBA analysts around the league are going nuts and criticizing the Knicks for letting Melo play 30 minutes in a meaningless All-Star Game in Madison Square Garden this past weekend. The 6 months rehab program may cause Melo to miss some of training camp and hopefully won’t linger into the start of next season. I don’t see the big concern of Melo playing in the All-Star game just a week ago. He wanted to host the game and represent his own team in his own city. Yes he is hurt, yes he got surgery performed 4 days later, but his knee couldn’t get any worse than it already was. If you’re a fan or watch Melo play, it was clear that he wasn’t himself on the court and something was bothering him. This has been the issue all year. He can rest and get treatment for another 2 weeks and then start playing again, but one weird or awkward tweak, he’s out for another 2 weeks. This surgery was definitely needed to clean things out of Melo’s left knee, and to make sure he’ll be healthy for the 2015-16 season and the rest of his contract. Although it can be a scary surgery, as other NBA players have received the procedure (D-Wade & Danny Granger), there weren’t any other problems found while inside of Melo’s valuable left knee. Let’s just hope he makes a full recovery, we sign some great free agents in the summer of 2015 and don’t trade away valuable assets that we have by the time the trade deadline is over today.
