Cheshire’s contract purchased by Minnesota Twins

Jonathan Cheshire’s 38 days in Bridgewater, New Jersey went faster than the pitches he threw.

The Somerset Patriots announced Friday that the Minnesota Twins organization have purchased the right-handed pitcher’s contract, per release. He will report to their Double-A affiliate in Florida, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

The 24-year-old Cheshire posted a 0.55 era over 15 appearances with the Patriots and excelled as a reliever limiting batters to a .179 average at the plate. He accumulated four saves and 19 strikeouts over that span.

He joins pitcher Tyler Cloyd as the other Somerset player to join a major league organization. Cloyd was purchased by the Seattle Mariners during spring training.

Cheshire spent parts of the 2019 campaign in the Toronto Blue Jays organization  with High-A Dunedin, Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo.
