Cody Rhodes – ROH World Champion (Marty Scurll Twitter – @MartyScurll) Cody Rhodes has proven the haters wrong, and in a big way. At Ring of Honor’s Best in the World PPV, Cody defeated Christopher Daniels to win the ROH World Title. With the win, he is the first member of the Rhodes family in 31 years to win a World Title. As a member of the Bullet Club, Rhodes’ victory was definitely… too sweet. The match between the two in Lowell, Massachusetts was as hard-hitting as you can imagine. Cody used some of his old moves, while also busting out some new ones. Some of those include a flatliner and IWPG Champion Kazuchika Okada’s own move, The Rainmaker. This is significant since Cody faces Okada for the IWGP Title on July 1st at the G1 Special show in California. More on that later. The match had some more moments worth remembering. Marty Scurll came out to support Cody until Frankie Kazarian came out to even the odds. There was a sick table bump and Daniels even kicked out of an early Cross Rhodes attempt. In the end, one final Cross Rhodes put Daniels away, awarding Cody the victory and his first ever major World Title. httpss://twitter.com/BulletClubItal/status/878462084958343172 httpss://twitter.com/ringofhonor/status/878463021244461057 It has been a long road for the grandson of a plumber. When speaking to Cody at the War of the Worlds New York City show, Cody was adamant on how important winning this title was to him. If you recall, he stated: Winning a world title would be everything to me, it would be the journey. A whole new journey would have to begin, and I wouldn’t be sure what that is. That’s the best part about professional wrestling. The journey to “somewhere” has begun for Cody Rhodes. It is a great moment for someone who has worked extremely hard since leaving WWE. Some may not be impressed with his run, but seeing him as a champion proves that he put in the work and improved his craft every time he stepped into the ring. And he’s just getting started. What now? The match against Okada became a must-see. It will be champion v. champion, an inter-promotional match that could steal the show. If Cody was to win the IWGP Title to go along with the ROH World Title, we would have no choice but to bow down to him. Get ready for a showdown between two wrestling greats. A free agent, Cody Rhodes is now carrying an entire company on his back. It is a deserving honor for the man who took the chance of a lifetime. As he said in his amazing post-fight speech, “The Prince just became a King …and we march on everybody.” It is an exciting time to be a wrestling fan. Congratulations Cody!
