MMA Coming Soon: The 2016 DGS Main Event Pro Wrestling and MMA Awards by Daniel Yanofsky December 23, 2016 What a year for professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. History was made, a union was formed in the UFC and ratings have never been higher. As we approach 2017, it’s a time to reflect. The best way to do so would be to award those who have stood out the entire year. My Main Event co-host Kristine Haugsjaa and I present to you: The 2016 DGS Main Event Pro Wrestling and MMA Awards! Adopted from the prestigious awards given out by Pro Wrestling Illustrated, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rolling Stone, The Slammy’s and the ESPY’s (don’t forget the Double G Sports Awards), the awards will be given out to those we deem the best of the year (only in MMA and pro wrestling). Each category will have a winner for a pro wrestling and MMA figure. Will some of the winners be controversial? Yes, but that is what makes this great. Here are the awards for this year: – Wrestler of the Year – Fighter of the Year – Match of the Year – Fight of the Year – Hometown Athlete of the Year – Most Improved – Underrated Athlete – Overrated Athlete – Rookie of the Year – Tag Team of the Year – Comeback of the Year – Feud of the Year – Who to look out for in 2017 Within the next few days, Kristine and I will announce the winners. We will also discuss some of our choices on Sunday’s The Main Event. Stay tuned to see if your favorite wrestler/fighter won.
