Connecticut Whale Sign Norwich University Two-Way Center, Sarah Schwenzfeier

The Connecticut Whale announced that they signed Norwich University center, Sarah Schwenzfeier for the 2018-2019 National Women’s Hockey League season.

In 119 games at the Northfield, Vermont school, Schwenzfeier scored 54 goals and 67 assists. 34 of those tallies came in the last two seasons.

In an article in the Boston Globe, Norwich head coach, Mark Bolding called her “one of the best two-way consistent players in the nation.” He even compared the Hingham, Massachusetts native to Boston Bruins center, Patrice Bergeron.

He added, “She is like Patrice Bergeron in the middle with all the tools, with and without the puck.”

Whale head coach, Ryan Equale’s system should lead her to have an important role during her rookie season.

Schwenzfeier said, “I wanted to join the NWHL to continue to play the sport that has allowed me so many opportunities in my life, and to hopefully inspire young girls to follow their dreams.”

Prior to playing for the Cadets, she skated three seasons at Hingham High School, helping to capture a state title her sophomore season. She also laced up the skates for Tabor Academy, in Marion, Massachusetts. She was a three-sport athlete at Tabor, as she represented the school in hockey, soccer and softball.

When asked to describe her playing style and goals, she noted, “I would describe my style of play as a two-way forward. Over the years at Norwich, my strong skating foundation has allowed me to be an effective center in all areas of the ice. My goal for the season is to continue to improve everyday to help the Whale succeed.”
