Danick Martel Claimed by Tampa, Five Others Assigned to Lehigh Valley

Flyers GM Ron Hextall announced that the roster had been cut to 35.

Danick Martel was a victim of a waiver claim, and he’ll be off to Tampa Bay. The 24 year old winger led the AHL in goals for a good portion of last season.

Martel put up 25 goals last year for Lehigh Valley for a total of 40 points in 59 games. He played almost 200 games for the Phantoms and a handful for Philadelphia.

The Lightning are obligated to keep him on the NHL roster for 30 days or 10 games before he is eligible to be placed on waivers again.

The five players sent to Lehigh Valley are Cole Bardreau, TJ Brennan, Phil Varone, Greg Carey and Radel Fazleev. Fazleev was hurt during camp, so he didn’t have much of a shot.

Brennan’s departure is another step towards the NHL for Philippe Myers.

The Flyers play again Monday night against Boston.
