SUMMIT, N.J. – Having just completed the Web.com Tour’s Rex Hospital Open in Raleigh, North Carolina on Sunday, Daniel Chopra of Sweden earned medalist honors as 79 golfers set out on a dreary, rainy Monday morning at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, New Jersey to play 36 holes of Sectional Qualifying, all for a shot at a coveted spot in the upcoming 117th U.S. Open Championship at Erin Hills Country Club in Erin, Wisconsin on June 12-18.

Chopra, who collected his second check in three weeks on the Web.com Tour, fired a 4-under-par 66 on Canoe Brook’s South Course in the morning and came back in the afternoon with a sizzling 7-under 65 on the North Course to complete a 36-hole total of 11-under-par 66-65-131.

Andy Pope of Orlando, Florida (68n, 66s), (a) Christopher Crawford of Bensalem, Pennsylvania (66n, 68s), and (a) Scott Harvey of Greensboro, North Carolina (63n, 71s) all tied for second-place with an 8-under 134 and Matthew Campbell of Rome, New York (65s, 70n) slotted into the final spot after winning a playoff.

Roberto Diaz of Mexico (65s, 70n), who also shot a 7-under 135, is the first alternate and Cameron Wilson of Rowayton, Connecticut (71n, 65s), who shot a 6-under 136, is the second alternate.

The field of 79 included 11 New Jersey golfers including top scorer (a) Lloyd Jefferson Go. Go, who hails from Guadalupe Cebu, Philippines and graduated last month from Seton Hall University as arguably the greatest golfer ever to attend that school, shot a 4-under-par 138 (71n, 67s) to finish in a seven-way tie for seventh place.

Other Garden State golfers that competed: Kevin Foley (Somerville, -4), Ryan McCormick (Middletown, -4), (a) Dawson Jones (Howell, -3), Pat Wilson (Andover, -3), Tyler Hall (Wayne, -2), Sam Kang (Mountain Lakes -2), (a) Evan Quinn (Morristown, -1), David Sanders (Mount Laurel, +10), Evan Waldron (South Bound Brook, +16), and (a) Lodie Van Tonder (Pennsville, +20).
