Despite Successful 2015, Sandy Alderson Still Doesn’t Understand Mets Fans

In speaking with the media on Thursday, January 7, 2016, Sandy Alderson addressed Mets’ fans concern regarding the lack of aggressive offseason spending by the Mets after falling short in the 2015 World Series to the Kansas City Royals.

He stated, “The idea that we’re not investing in the team is really misplaced and tied up in the populism involving Cespedes and, really, Cespedes,” Alderson explained.

He’s dead wrong.

If you poll 10 Mets fans, 5 will want Cespedes back at any cost, and 5 won’t. Mets fans are an educated bunch despite what this general manager believes.

It isn’t just Cespedes, it has to do with the fact that the Mets refuse to improve the roster.  Mets fans haven’t been clamoring for Cespedes – they have been clamoring for Murphy’s return, a better outfield option than Alejandro de Aza such as Denard Span whom the Mets declined to even watch work out, or Dexter Fowler.

They want bench depth and watch key cogs like Juan Uribe go unsigned and Kelly Johnson return to the Atlanta Braves.

They want bullpen help and watch Aroldis Chapman head to the rival Yankees.

They want the pressure off David Wright and a young Michael Conforto and once again, it seems the pressure is right back upon the third baseman and the second year outfielder.

So once again, Alderson simplifies it and acts as if Mets fans are trumpeting for Cespedes, but it couldn’t be further from the case. It isn’t the fans who are “misplaced” it’s you Mr. Alderson.
