The New Jersey Devils defeated a very tough Nashville Predators team on Tuesday night to get back to .500 at 27-27-10. The last time these two teams played, on Valentine’s Day, the Predators scored two goals late in the third to sink the Devils. This time around the Devils were the team to score two quick goals to help them win the game.

The Devils opened the game with two goals in four minutes scored by Adam Larson (his third of the year) and Eric Gelinas (his fifth of the year). From there on out it was all about Cory Schneider shutting the door on the Predators. He turned away 33 out of 34 shots in total and 20 of 21 in the second period alone. The only puck that beat Schneider was a loose rebound that found Mike Fisher’s stick at the side of a wide open net.

Mike Cammalleri got credit for his team-leading 24th goal of the year when he was tripped up en route to scoring on an empty net to make the score 3-1. This victory moves the Devils to within seven points of the idle Boston Bruins for the final playoff spot.

It was an impressive victory for the Devils. Now they have two straight home games against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Devils sit just two points behind the Flyers in the standings and eight ahead of the Blue Jackets, so these two games are must wins for the Devils to continue to climb in the standings.
