The Devils acquired 24-year-old Kyle Palmieri from the Anaheim Ducks for two draft picks. Palmieri is a New Jersey native who brings some much needed youth to the Devils offense.

In 57 games for Anaheim last year Palmieri had 14 goals and 15 assists. If you implanted those numbers into the previous season’s Devils team Palmieri would be fourth on the team in goals, seventh on the team in assists, and sixth on the team in overall points. This goes to show just how desperate the Devils are for offense and they got a good component in Palmieri.

Devils GM Ray Shero had this to say about his newly acquired forward: “He’s at the right age for us. The style of play, he plays with speed and can really shoot a puck. Plus his contractual situation in terms of having a year left and two years restricted is good for us.”

There’s no doubt this trade is a win on paper for the Devils, and it will certainly be exciting to see Palmieri hit the ice with the rest of his teammates.

In addition to this move, the Devils also confirmed they would not be bringing back Scott Gomez or Steve Bernier. Shero is truly aiming to transform this team into something new for the 2015-16 season.
