Double Trouble – Charlo Brothers to both fight in Brooklyn on Dec. 22

Both brothers Charlo will look to end the year on a right note inside the Barclays Center

It will be a family affair in Brooklyn, as both Jermall and Jermell Charlo will fight inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The December 22 card on FOX and FOX Deportes will feature Jermall v. Willie Monroe Jr. and Jermell v. Tony Harrison. Premier Boxing Champions will host the event.

Jermall (27-0) and Jermell (31-0) are forces to be reckoned with in boxing’s middleweight division. With about four titles between them, it was tough for management to choose who would main event the card. That is why on Thursday’s press conference inside the Barclays Center, the brothers will flip a coin to decide. What a strange but entertaining time to be a boxing fan.

Both brothers are already on the right side of history. Back in 2016, they became the first twins to hold world titles in the same weight class.

Jermell’s opponent, Tony Harrison (27-2), has only fought for a world title once. That was back in 2017 in a TKO loss to Jarrett Hurd for the IBF World Welterweight Title. That was the second loss of his career. Since then, he has won three in a row. With 21 wins via KO, Harrison will look to make a true name for himself against the younger Charlo brother.

Willie Monroe Jr. (23-3) is a former three-belt champion, holding the WBA–NABA Middleweight, WBO NABO Middleweight and WBO Intercontinental Middleweight titles. His last two losses were for his titles, fighting some of the best boxing has to offer. Those fighters happened to be Gennady Golovkin and Billy Joe Saunders. He has won his last two fights but only has six wins via KO.

The opponents of the two may not be “sexy” choices according to many, but it is a challenge both will clearly take. Fans might not be as welcomed to the fights announced. The Charlo brothers are an interesting commodity in the boxing world. With all the talent they possess, they only fight once or twice a year. While they have star power, they will have to work hard to convince fans these were the right fights to make.

Thursday’s press conference starts at noon. Fans that are able to attend will have an opportunity to win tickets to the event. You can eventually buy tickets at Ticketmaster.com or the Barclays Center box office.
