Ducks Get Swept in Three-Game Series against Barnstormers

The Long Island Ducks made their way to Lancaster, PA Tuesday night to open their three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers.

Tuesday night’s game began with a RBI single off of Duck Blake Tekotte’s bat in the top of the forth. Long Island was unable to maintain the one-run lead after Lancaster’s Josh Bell smashed a two-run homer to right-center off of Duck’s starter John Brownell (ERA 3.82). Barnstormers reliever Ryan Dennick (2-1) earned the win with only allowing one walk and four strike-outs. The loss was charged to Brownell after going six innings he gave up four runs on eight hits, two walks, and five strikeouts. Barnstormers took the first game 7-1.

Wednesday night’s game started with a first inning RBI double by Lancaster’s Caleb Gindl. Long Island quickly responded in the top of the second with a solo homer run to right by Tyler Colvin’s followed by a two-run triple down the right field line by Anthony Vega off of Barnstormers starter Terry Doyle (ERA 5.72). Long Island could not maintain the 3-1 lead for long, the Barnstormers responded with four more run in the bottom of the second. Long Island’s offense was unable to pick up from the deficit. Barnstormers starter picked up the win after six innings and only allowing four runs on eight hits with three strike outs and two walks. Ducks starter Darin Downs (ERA 5.08) took the loss after his five innings of work allowing seven runs on eight hits, five walks, and five strikeouts. Barnstomers 8-4.

Thursday night’s game started off with a promising start for Long Island with a RBI double off of Lancaster’s starter Bryan Evans (ERA 3.95). Long Island was unable to maintain the lead. Duck starter Bobby Blevins ( ERA 5.44) gave up six-runs after 10 hits in four innings with only one strikeout. Evans collected the win pitching six innings, leading with nine strikeouts, a walk, and only allowing four runs to score. Barnstomers 7-4.

The Long Island Ducks were unable to avoid being swept by the Lancaster Barnstomers. The Ducks stand second in the Liberty division. They are only .5 games behind Somerset Patriots. The Ducks return home this weekend to face the Sugar Land Skeeters in a three-game series.
