Baseball Ducks Take Series Opener Over Patriots 4-2 In Extras by Somerset Patriots August 2, 2016 Bridgewater, NJ – The Long Island Ducks (14-9, 54-39) defeated the Somerset Patriots (12-13, 50-45) 4-2 in ten innings at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Ducks rallied to tie up the game on a bases loaded walk of Mike Dowd. Long Island took the lead in the top of the tenth inning with two runs on an RBI single by Cody Puckett and an RBI double by Dan Lyons for the 4-2 final. Somerset took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on David Vidal’s team leading 14th home run of the season. The Ducks tied up the game on an RBI double by Lyons in the top of the fourth inning. The Patriots broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning on Kyle Roller’s go-ahead single for a 2-1 advantage. “We’ve been in every one of these games, but a loss is still a loss,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “It’s not like we are losing by ten runs and then you’d say you’re not a good team. We just need some things to go our way that they haven’t for quite some time now. Guys are going to have to dig deep and start making those things happen.” Amalio Diaz (5-2) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. Jeremy Bleich (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in an inning pitched. Todd Coffey earned his 18th save of the season with a scoreless inning pitched. Patriots starting pitcher Shaun Garceau allowed just one run on four hits in eight strong innings pitched. The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday with a 7:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks. The game features a Sinatra Celebration, Baseball Bingo, and Senior Wednesday. For tickets, call 908-252-0700 or visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
