Baseball Duran comes through in clutch for Lakewood by Staff Post June 28, 2016 Lakewood’s Carlos Duran (Photo courtesy of Lakewood BlueClaws Carlos Duran’s singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning, sending the Lakewood BlueClaws to a 6-5 win over the Hagerstown (Md.) Suns in South Atantic League play Monday night. Lakewood erupted for four runs in the eighth for the win. A two-run, two-out homer by Damek Tomscha pulled Lakewood to within 4-3. Brendon Hayden tied the game at four with an RBI single. Duran’s single gave Lakewood its first lead of the game, 5-4. In the ninth, Zach Morris allowed an RBI single to Ian Sagdal to make it a 6-5 game. With runners at first and second, Morris whiffed Randy Encarnacion to end the game and pick up his third save of the year, all in the last five games. The win for the BlueClaws (3-2, 32-42) is their first in Hagerstown (4-1, 47-28) this season, snapping a six-game losing streak at Municipal Stadium. It was just the third game this year that the BlueClaws won in which they trailed entering the eighth inning. Tobias had four hits and finished a home run shy of the cycle, singling in his final at-bat of the game. Wilson Garcia, Grullon, Hayden and Duran all had two hits for Lakewood, the Philadelphia Phillies’ low Class A farm team. Sutter McLoughlin (1-1), who threw two scoreless innings in relief, earned his first win as a BlueClaw. Hagerstown (Washington Nationals) took a 2-0 lead in the third on a two-run homer by Telmito Agustin. Lakewood pulled to within 2-1 in the fourth on an RBI single by Garcia. The Suns pushed their lead to 3-1 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Matthew Page. A throwing error on Lakewood’s Emmanuel Marrero extended the Suns’ lead to 4-1. The series continues Tuesday night when Lakewood righty Alberto Tirado (0-0) goes against right-hander Jefry Rodriguez.
