High School Sports East Side Community Shuts Out American Studies to Win 2015 PSAL “AA” Championship by Staff Post June 4, 2015 2015 PSAL Championships at Yankee Stadium. The first game at Yankee Stadium pitted two high school baseball teams for the honor of becoming the 2015 PSAL baseball champions. East Side Community, led by the bat of Timothy Lopez and complete game performance by #10, East Side won 7-0 to become champions. The first three innings were a story of lost opportunities. American Studies started slow as injured pitcher Sid Levy Fastoor could not get out of the first inning. He was relieved by lefty Jack Buckley, who escaped a bases loaded situation with two strikeouts. But luck would not last when the participants reached the fourth and first baseman of American dropped a popup. Hazim Hazar followed with a single to right. A grou der by Mario Williams to first put runners on second and third. Almonte went down on a called strikeout. But Timothy Lopez broke the scoreless deadlock with an single to center to make it 1-0 East Side. East Side was also impressing in the defensive side of the ball as centerfielder #15 dived to catch a screaming line drive to save a run. In the fourth after an error put on Noah Gordon, Buckley got Jacob Febstein to hit into a 4-6-3 double play. The game woukd change dramatically when East Side put it a 5 ball to take the game out of reach. Jacob Pena and Lucien Lazar singled and a sac bunt by Isiah Perez to move them over. A passed ball made it 2-0. 4-0. In came #12 and the game wasbroken open for good. Hazar followed with a 2-run single and it was 4-0. Joshua Almonte fly to center was dropped.making it 5-0. Timothy Lopez added his second RBI win another single and after the inning was complete, American Studies was 6-0 down. On the other side #10 retired 9 of the his last ten batters, with only a walk as a single blemish. In the 7th, Joshua Almonte reached on an infield single and stole second. Timothy Looez doubled and it was 7-0 and Lopez had three runs batted in today. #20 struckout the side to complete the championship journey for East Side Community.
