The New Jersey Devils continued their great play on Friday with a 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The big story from the victory is that Patrik Elias has secured another achievement in his storied career.

Elias’ wrist shot from the slot early in the second period was not only the 400th of his career but turned out to be the game winning goal as well! Talk about having your cake and eating it too. Elias joins a group of 90 other NHL players to have scored 400 goals.

After the game Elias speaking about his highlight said: “I’m proud of it, no question. I’m proud of doing it for one organization, this team, and I was fortunate to have a lot of guys contributing to it.”

Devils interim co-head coach and long time General Manager Lou Lamoriello gave praise to Elias saying: “I think his trademark is that he’s an all-purpose player, an all-situation player. He has the highest hockey sense you can have, but he’s a finisher too. You don’t score 400 goals and not be considered a goal-scorer.”

Jaromir Jagr who scored the last goal of the game for the Devils is approaching a milestone of his own. That goal, Jagr’s 11th of the season, gives him 716 for his career which is just one behind Phil Esposito for fifth all time in NHL history.

Above all else the win gave the Devils a three game winning streak which ties their longest of the entire season and vaults them to just 10 points behind the Boston Bruins for the last wild card spot. The Devils will play three of their next four games on the road before starting a six game home stand. This is the Devils best chance of the season to put wins together and make a big playoff push.
