Columbia, SC – The Columbia Fireflies dropped the weekend series opener 6-3 against the Hagerstown Suns at Spirit Communications Park. Ivan Wilson led the way for Fireflies with a two RBI’s, but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback.

The Suns were off to an early lead, scoring one in the first and then four in the second as Kelvin Gutierrez, Rhett Wiseman and Telmito Agustin got runs off of starter Joe Shaw.  The Fireflies tried to mount a comeback in the fifth but couldn’t quite bring it together.

The seventh saw controversy, as a wild pitch brought Max Schrock home, but catcher Jose Garcia got the pitch back to pitcher Johnny Magliozzi in time. Originally, Schrock was called out, but he was then ruled safe on an interference call. Ultimately, he was ruled out leaving lead for the Suns at 6-3 going into the eighth.

That would be all they needed as they took the first game of the series.

Chase Ingram (3-4, 4.40) takes the mound tomorrow for Columbia as he faces off against Suns righty Pedro Avila (3-3, 3.28). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Spirit Communications Park.
