Fireflies Split Doubleheader

August, GA – Having to make up a rained out game from Monday, the Columbia Fireflies took the first game of their doubleheader and the lost the second game to the Green Jackets.

In the first game, the Fireflies scored first off of a sacrifice fly in the fourth from Patrick Mazeika that brought J.C. Rodriguez in. The fireflies next scoring play came one play later on a Milton Ramos line drive to center field bringing David Thompson home.

The Fireflies scored one in the fifth and looked to be in complete control, then in the bottom of the seventh when Augusta scored three to tie the game up. The game went to ten where Columbia scored one in the top of the tenth, enough for them to win 4-3.

The second game was a similar story as the Fireflies scored one in the first, but Augusta took three in the bottom half of that inning. Neither side scored until the fifth inning when Columbia took four runs in their split, and Augusta took one in the bottom split, making it a 5-4 score favoring the Fireflies.  Augusta would score two in the bottom of the seventh and take home the second game of the doubleheader 6-5.

Joe Shaw (3-3, 3.76) is scheduled to take the mound tonight in the series finale as he faces off against Cory Taylor (4-1, 1.94), first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM in Augusta.
