First Place Jackals Enjoying Success Early This Season

Halfway through week three of the New Jersey Jackals young season there is no shortage of storylines.

The Jackals rode an impressive 10 game-win streak to catapult themselves to the top of the standings. The streak included two series sweeps over the Aigles, and one over the Quebec Capitales.

On Monday, the Jackals opened up a series with the Sussex County Miners. Their offense once again provided more than enough run support to continue their lengthy streak in the W column. The Jackals cruised to a 19-3 routing of the Miners and handed Manager Joe Calfapietra his 800th career win. Their impressive 10-game winning streak came to an end Tuesday at the hands of the Sussex County Miners, and they also dropped Wednesday’s rubber match to drop the three game series on the road.

Notably, RHP John Walter – a New Jersey native – who was named a CanAm Player of the Week in week 1, had his contract purchased by the St. Louis Cardinals. He reported to the Cardinals High-A affiliate in Palm Beach, FL. This year Walter was 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA, and had a career 15-2 record over two seasons with the Jackals.

The Jackals continue to sit atop the league standings, currently holding a 1.5 game lead. They will be back in action tonight (Thursday, June 9) at Yogi Berra Stadium opening up a 4-game set with the Rockland Boulders.
