Flyers Lose Michael Raffl for Up to 6 Weeks

Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall announced that the injury to winger Michael Raffl will keep him out for four to six weeks.

He sustained the injury late in the second period against Colorado. The whistle was blown to allow him to be helped off the ice, applying almost no pressure to his left leg.

Raffl plays over two minutes of penalty kill time per night. He’s recorded two assists in his nine games this season. A struggling penalty kill gets a little bit weaker, as the Flyers sit among the worst kill units in the NHL once again.

In March of 2017, Raffl was also injured playing against the Colorado Avalanche. It was the left knee he had hurt. He was set to miss up to eight weeks at that time, however, this hasn’t been reported as a knee injury.

Play also had to be stopped to help Shayne Gostisbehere off the ice, after he took a puck to the knee. Gostisbehere returned to play soon after.

The Flyers have yet to win back to back games this season, and now sit at four wins and five losses— eight points in nine games. Hakstol stressed that the team needs to get going early, and has not.

They’ll look to right the ship against a 4-2-2 Bruins team Thursday night. Candidates to enter the lineup include Mikhail Vorobyev, Corban Knight, or even a call up from the AHL, Nicolas Aube-Kubel.
