Flyers trade Anthony Stolarz for Cam Talbot

The trade is one for one.

Talbot, a pending UFA, is in a sub-par situation in Edmonton. Fletcher and the Flyers could be hoping a change of scenery brings him back to 2016-17, where he finished fourth in Vezina voting. The Oilers needed to move his salary to allow returning players off the injured reserve.

Stolarz, also a pending free agent, will be given a chance to succeed elsewhere. The Flyers have great organizational depth at the position, and he wasn’t in the team’s future plans.

Carter Hart will get to play 1A and 1B with a mentor of his in Talbot. The question remains: what do the Flyers do with goaltenders Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth?

Once Talbot suits up for Philadelphia, the team will set an all-time NHL record for most goaltenders used in a single season. He’s the eighth one.
