The Jets and running back Bilal Powell have agreed on a deal to keep him in New York. The parameters of the deal are yet to be known, but with just Chris Ivory on the roster as of now for 2015, the Jets needed to make this move. We anticipate the Jets not being done in terms of adding depth in the backfield. They have been rumored to have interest in ex-Patriot Shane Vereen.

The Jets and free agent guard James Carpenter have agreed to a four-year contract worth $4.75 million. After missing out on guards Orlando Franklin and Mike Iupati to San Diego and Arizona respectively, the Jets needed to add a big body up front somewhere. The 26-year-old former first-round pick for Seattle in 20111 is a run-block specialist, so he should fit right in in Chris Ivory’s eyes. Carpenter will replace veteran Willie Colon.

The New York Jets are also expected to release speedy wide receiver Percy Harvin on Tuesday. The Jets acquired Harvin from the Seahawks last October. By releasing Harvin before March 19, the Jets will send a sixth-round pick back to Seattle instead of a fourth-rounder had he been on the roster post-that date. The experiment did not quite work out as planned for Harvin in New York, but with the recent acquisition of Brandon Marshall last week, the Jets can afford to move on with Eric Decker and Jeremy Kerley also in the fold for 2015.
