College Fourth Quarter Propels Loyola Women over Lafayette by Hannah Ally February 17, 2019 February 16, 2019, Lafayette women’s basketball team hosted the Loyola Greyhounds at Kirby Sports Center in Easton, PA. With an amazing atmosphere of Play4Kay basketball, Loyola got the win 55-52. Pregame celebrations consisted of pink decorations, a pink fire truck in the building and acknowledging local cancer survivors with rounds of applause. With good spirits in the air and an electric crowd, Lafeyette’s own Natalie Kucowski locked in her 20th career double-double. Kucowski, a sophmore from Philadelphia, ended the game with 18 points, 12 rebounds and two steals. She was also named player of the game. Her impressive performance is not new for her as she averages 13 points, 11 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game this season. Drew Freeland, Lafeyette’s sophmore guard, added 13 points and two assists. However, that alone was not enough to stop the Loyola Greyhounds. Loyola’s Delaney Connolly, hit five three point shots while ending the game with a career high of 25 points. The old saying, foul shots win games, proved to be true when the Greyhounds went 10-of-14 from the foul line while Lafeyette was 5-of-12. Lafayette had one last opportunity to secure the win with moments left in the 4th quarter, trailing by three. Freeland got fouled on a deep three point attempt, but couldn’t convert at the foul line. Connolly secured the rebound with 20 seconds left in the game and Loyola took home the win back to Maryland. Both teams have their next game occurring this week on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Loyola will remain on the road and head to Bucknell for a 6 p.m. contest while Lafayette takes on Navy in Annapolis, Maryland.
