College George Washington Defeats Saint Joseph’s to Win 2018 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship by Stephen Ur March 4, 2018 George Washington. Saint Joseph’s. The two teams met in the Atlantic 10 women’s basketball tournament final at the Richmond Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. The winner would advance to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. It was a very closely contested first quarter between the two teams. Towards the end of the quarter, however, Saint Joseph’s committed a couple fouls and turned the ball over a few times. George Washington would capitalize with a 6-0 run to take a 16-10 lead after one. St Joseph’s would keep it closer in the second quarter, but George Washington continued to shoot well. They went 2-3 from three and were a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line in the second quarter. They would take a 32-24 lead into the locker room. Second Half Surge In the third quarter, George Washington continued their dominance, getting out to a 12-point lead with three minutes remaining in the quarter. They didn’t let up, either. They continued their momentum and led 49-37 at the end of three. That dominance by George Washington was carried into the fourth quarter. They were able to continue shooting well from the field and beyond. They also capitalized on St Joseph’s turnovers. George Washington would open up a 20 point lead and never look back. The Colonials went to win by a final score of 65-49. The Colonials are the 2018 Atlantic 10 women’s basketball champions. They now await their opponent in the NCAA tournament. The women’s selection show is next Monday, March 12.
