Giancarlo Stanton back on IL with knee injury

It’s not the news you want to hear but unfortunately Giancarlo Stanton, after rehabbing multiple injuries at the beginning of the season, is back on the shelf with a strained PCL muscle.  It was discovered after the Yankees’ 8-7 walk-off win that Stanton would not be joining them in London and will be re-evaluated in a week.

It’s a shame because Stanton has played decently well since coming back.  Stanton tweaked his knee after a slide in Tuesday’s game.  He was removed from the game and replaced by Brett Gardner.

It’s just another chapter in what’s becoming too common of an occurrence.  Stanton absolutely carried the Yankees for almost two months last season with Aaron Judge sidelined but he hasn’t found a way to consistently stay on the field.  Let’s hope that this isn’t as bad as it sounds but all signs point to Stanton spending at least another three weeks on the Injured List.

The Yankees don’t need Stanton right now but having him in the middle of the lineup makes it that much more formidable.  The Yankees are one of the best hitting teams in baseball but having a former National League MVP in the heart of it can’t hurt them.  It’s a shame that Stanton hasn’t been able to stay healthy but hopefully when he comes back healthy he’s better than ever.
