Football Giants Add Tony Johnson, Waive Jones by Guest June 11, 2015 The Giants announced on Thursday that they have signed former Louisiana Tech linebacker Tony Johnson to the active roster. In a corresponding roster move, linebacker Ryan Jones was waived with an injury designation. Johnson spent two seasons at Louisiana Tech after transferring from Southwest Mississippi Community College. He played in 12 games last season, recording 69 tackles (including 27 for loss), 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. He went undrafted in last month’s NFL Draft. Louisiana Tech linebacker Tony Johnson (#42) has been signed by the Giants (LATechSportsPix.com). Johnson joins a crowded linebacker corps, where he will compete for a roster spot with fellow UDFAs Cole Farrand (Maryland) and Devin Unga (BYU). Multiple sources reported last week that Jones had been waived with an injury designation, but that had not been officially confirmed by the team until today. The Giants did not indicate what type of injury Jones sustained. Jones, undrafted out of Montana Tech in 2014, saw some second-team reps with the Giants at OTAs after being signed in April, but ultimately his injury cost him his 90-man roster spot. The Giants were Jones’ second stop in the NFL, as he was signed by the Ravens in 2014, but did not make the team.
