Janoris Jenkins Suspended Indefinitely

Jenkins Becomes Second Cornerback in Three Weeks to Be Suspended By Team

Another week, another New York Giants player suspension. This time, it’s starting cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

The corner was suspended indefinitely by the Giants on Tuesday for a violation of team rules. Kimberly Jones of NFL Network first broke the news.  The sixth-year cornerback will miss this Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Janoris Jenkins Suspended Indefinitely

“As a member of this team, there are standards and we have responsibilities and obligations,” said Giants head coach Ben McAdoo. “When we don’t fulfill those obligations, there are consequences. As I have said before, we do not like to handle our team discipline publicly. There are times when it is unavoidable, and this is one of those times.”

While details were originally vague as to why Jenkins was punished by the team, we were later given clarification. The veteran cornerback did not return from the bye week on time, where he was scheduled to report to the team’s facilities. Jenkins did not return to the team until Tuesday morning.

“At that point, neither myself nor any of the coaches had heard from Jackrabbit,” said McAdoo. “I did not speak with him directly until Tuesday morning.”

While the suspension is listed as indefinite, the punishment can only last between one-to-four games under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Jenkins will miss at least one game, as McAdoo announced that he will evaluate the status of his suspension at the start of next week.

This decision by New York comes just three weeks after cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was suspended one game. Rodgers-Cromartie was punished for walking out of team meeting after being told he’d be benched in Week 7 against the Denver Broncos.

With the Giants locker room looking to be frustrated with a 1-6 start, the last thing they needed was another suspension. Especially to New York’s star corner.
