Giants Re-Sign Zak DeOssie

The Giants made their first signing of the 2016 offseason on Wednesday when they brought back veteran long snapper Zak DeOssie on a one-year deal.

DeOssie was set to hit unrestricted free agency, but his new deal ensures he will continue to be a key piece of the Giants’ special teams unit for at least another year.

The 31-year-old has been the Giants’ long snapper since he was drafted out of Brown in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He has been incredibly reliable throughout his career, and played in every game in each of his first eight NFL seasons.

DeOssie was a part of both the Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI teams. In fact, DeOssie and QB Eli Manning are the only players from the Super Bowl XLII squad that are still on the roster. In addition to being a two-time champ, DeOssie is also a two-time Pro Bowler, and has been named the Giants’ special teams captain in each of the past four seasons.

In 2015, DeOssie was on his way to making it nine straight seasons without a missed game, but a wrist injury in December ended his season after just 12 games. He was placed on injured reserve, and the Giants signed former Patriots long snapper Danny Aiken to replace him.

Aiken handled long snapping duties in three games before he suffered a thumb injury. He joined DeOssie on IR, and the Giants added Tyler Ott to be the team’s long snapper in the 2015 season finale.

DeOssie is the lone special teams specialist signed for next season. K Josh Brown is scheduled for unrestricted free agency, while P Brad Wing is set to become an exclusive rights free agent.
