Giants Release Preston Parker, Re-Sign Ellis

The Giants announced on Tuesday that they have released WR Preston Parker, and re-signed DT Kenrick Ellis.

Parker drew the ire of Giants fans after committing some brutal drops in the Giants’ first two games. Against Dallas, Parker dropped three third down passes that would have extended Giants drives.

In the Giants’ loss to the Falcons, he committed a drop on the final play of the game. The would-be fourth down reception would have kept the Giants’ hopes at a comeback alive.

In two games as the Giants’ No. 3 receiver, Parker managed just five receptions for 33 yards and no touchdowns.

His release leaves just Dwayne Harris and rookie Geremy Davis behind starters Odell Beckham and Rueben Randle. Victor Cruz (calf) is not expected to play on Thursday against Washington.

Ellis returns to the Giants after spending the entire preseason with Big Blue. Many were surprised to see him let go at final cuts. The 6-5, 346 pound nose tackle visited the Panthers after Week 1, but was unsigned.

Ellis will provide the Giants depth at defensive tackle. Starter Markus Kuhn (knee) missed Week 2, and has yet to return to practice.
