Adam Bisnowaty (USATSI)

The New York Giants main weakness last season was the offensive line. It took the Giants until the sixth round to take an offensive lineman. Big Blue traded up seven spots to take University of Pittsburgh offensive tackle Adam Bisnowaty with the 200^th overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Bisnowaty started at left tackle for all 13 games in his senior season, as well as started in 43 of his 45 games. Bisnowaty has quite the list of accomplishments in his four years at Pittsburgh, which include, 2016 First Team All-ACC (Coaches), 2016 Second Team All-ACC (Media), 2016 runner-up ACC coaches’ Jacobs Blocking Trophy, 2015 First Team All-ACC (Coaches), 2015 Second Team All-ACC (Media), and was four-time All-ACC Academic Team. Bisnowaty brings an extensive resume to the Giants.

“It was awesome,” said Bisnowaty, after hearing he was drafted by the Giants. “Just sitting here and watching, it is an unbelievable experience and opportunity I have in front of me and I am excited to get started and to get there and get rolling. Like I said, it was awesome.”

The six-foot-six, 304 lbs. has the upper body strength and arm length (33 7/8”) to give opposing defenses a tough time. One of the main aspects of Bisnowaty’s play at Pittsburgh was his nastiness against the opposing defensive linemen that stood across from him. When asked about his “nasty game,” Bisnowaty elaborated.

“I am a nasty football player,” said Bisnowaty. “I get after people. That is something that I am very proud of – I am out there and I am physical every play, making sure that the guy across from me wants to quit. Everything I do on the field is nasty and physical and I take myself off the field with the preparation and I take that to the next level, so that when I get out there it is all football.”

The Giants have had a suspect offensive line after the Giants won Super Bowl XLVI. The line allows so much quarterback pressure and the running game is essentially nonexistent. One of the main goats (not the legend, the scapegoat) is 2015 first round pick Ereck Flowers. Flowers statistically has been one of the worst left tackles in the league.

Is it possible that the Giants traded their 2017 sixth and seventh round picks to the Tennessee Titans to grab their new left tackle in Bisnowaty?

“We wanted to help the offensive line but we didn’t want to reach for anyone and we did that,” said Giants general manager Jerry Reese. “We always want to help every position and offensive line is a position that we tried to help.”

“We are going to bring him in, see how he can play on both sides, both right and left, move him around a little bit and we think he has some flexibility inside as well,” said Giants head coach Ben McAdoo. “….We will start him at tackle and see how he does.”

The Giants have signed former San Diego Chargers 2013 first round pick D.J. Fluker in the offseason, as well as run blocking tight end/fullback Rhett Ellison. The Giants have options on the offensive line, where it looks as though they will use a plug and play scheme until something clicks.

Bisnowaty does have the opportunity of a lifetime to make his presence felt and could be a starter on the Giants offensive line in the near future. Only time will tell if Bisnowaty can be a difference maker in changing the course of the negativity that is the reputation of the Giants offensive line. Trading up for him shows how highly the team thinks of Bisnowaty, and he is ready to make a name for himself.

“I am ready to come in and get going and start hitting the field and just get out there and help the team to win that Super Bowl,” said Bisnowaty. “I think it says a lot about how they feel about me and I am pretty excited about that.”
