Baseball Greg Bird lands on the 10 Day IL by Chris Passarelli April 16, 2019 In a surprising turn of events……Greg Bird is back on the Injured List. Retroactive to April 14th, Bird lands on the IL with a plantar fascia tear. It’s unknown how long Bird will actually be out, but it’s safe to say this may be the end of Bird’s career. After coming into Spring Training healthy, Bird has struggled mightily both offensively and defensively. The injuries are no longer an excuse. The Yankees have given Bird multiple opportunities to right the ship each year, and each year he drops the ball with either his production or his inability to stay healthy. Bird’s injury opens the door for Mike Ford, the Yankees’ AAA first baseman. Ford has had a monster season so far for the SWB RailRiders. He’s currently batting .410 with five home runs and 14 RBIs. He kind of came out of nowhere but is now a vital part of this Yankees team. He can’t do much worse than Bird and he’ll be a breath of fresh air in what feels like a downtrodden clubhouse. As the Yankees start their series with the Boston Red Sox, they probably say goodbye, forever, to Greg Bird. Bird could have been the next Don Mattingly. He had all the talent in the world. However, baseball is a cruel sport unfortunately he never reached his potential as a Yankee. Good luck to Greg in his future endeavors, because he’s done as a Yankee.
