Basketball Has the base been set for a better New York Knicks future? by Stefano Bentivogli June 7, 2018 It will be the zero year for the Knicks again. It should have been this season that instead turned out to be unhappy again, a real ordeal especially for the fans. A season marked by the disappointing return of Joakim Noah, again in the field after a long suspension for prohibited substances, but that failed to impose as in the past. What we have seen is the ghost of Noah who eventually brought him out of the team due to the quarrel with Jeff Hornacek. It was also the season of injuries, above all that of Kristaps Porzingis against Milwaukee that led the Knicks to lose 17 out of 18 games. Given the situation, Hornacek had focused on young people, leaving Jarrett Jack out. But what was especially missing was the winning mentality, an attitude that certainly avoided all the bad moods revealed in the locker room. Now, we expect different choices that can give the final shock to the team. The first step was the signing of new coach David Fizdale previously at Memphis Grizzlies. The new assistants, Keith Smart and Royal Ivey, have also arrived. It will be their great responsibility to revive a group with morality under their feet. But new reinforcements will be needed, and in this sense they will look at the youth market. One of the hot names is that of Wendell Carter Jr. as well as that of Trae Young considered the heir to Steph Curry. The Knicks will need players of thickness and personality with the hope, although very limited, to recover Porzingis, but he seriously risks skipping the entire season. Then there is the Noah case to be solved: get rid of it or try the recovery again? The Knick’s front office will decide what to do. In the meantime, the bases have been laid, but there is still a lot of work to do.
